77.7 million from IFAD for food and nutrition security in Niger

IFAD has provided $77.7 million to rural communities to build a food and nutrition insecurity project to provide support to 210,000 rural households vulnerable to climate stocks and food insecurity.

Precis has several components: support for food crops - maize, millet, rice, sorghum - market gardening and livestock farming; encouragement for the use of sustainable water resource management technologies; development of market access and storage infrastructures; financing; and training and literacy. The project will be implemented in the regions of Dosso, Maradi, Tahoua and Zinder, covering 186 municipalities.

Costing $172.1, Precis will be financed by IFAD (€56.7 million loan and €21 million grant), the Niger government (€26.3 million) and the beneficiaries (€4.9 million), with the balance of around €63 million being finalized with other development partners.
